The Story of Me and Stories

I will get around to doing this properly, but in the meantime have a read of this: The Secret Story of Me and Writing Stories and possibly this: I’ve Been Lying to Myself.

<Below lies a half finished mess. Be warned adventurer.>

  • 2004: One morning, I woke up and knew I was going to be a writer. I mean that quite literally. I was 11 and I’d just woken up from a dream that was so good I wanted to know what happened next. It wasn’t weird or nonsensical, it was good. And I knew it was a long story that I’d just lived through the third chapter. I had no idea what to do with it – I wasn’t a writer – but I wrote it all down. It came to about half a page. Hm, that’s not a book.

  • 2008: The financial crash causes chaos in publishing and many literary agencies reduce their staff or close divisions. Including the children’s department that the literary agent I’d been speaking to ran.

  • 2011: I’ve finished my A Levels (Maths, Further Maths, Physics, Chemistry and English Literature) and go off to university to study Maths. I hate it.

  • 2015:

  • 2020: I write and self publish a non-fiction narrative book All the Tors while on furlough. That afternoon I’m made redundant via video call.

  • 2021: I get my job back but after not sleeping about it for 2 weeks decide to quit my job and write as a freelancer instead.

  • Present: Committing to finishing and publishing children’s fiction as my priority, over everything else. Come along for the ride :)
